Artist : Pierre Ribà
Sensual shapes made from simple sheets of cardboard…
So much simplicity and so much complexity mixed. Signs, shapes, cuts that the eye recognizes but that intrigue. Waves of memories of ancestral objects, a totem pole here perhaps, there a mask. And always, a restraint, an almost religious silence emanates from Pierre Ribà’s monochrome universe. The artist’s enigmatic works fascinate and cast doubt. “his sculptures are so close to us that when we have seen them once, we have the impression that we have always known them, as friends who have come back from afar, as memories or doves, as familiar melodious songs, so harmonious are they in front of us, humble and human” Georges Chich insists. It is true, these works of carefully agglomerated pieces of cardboard have the strange power to stand out from the outset, like a plastic evidence, a kind of physical law, a haunting chorus that runs through your head all day long.
