Patrick LOSTE
Born on 20 September 1955 in Perpignan (France). Lives and works in the Albères P.O. (France).
Patrick Loste never illustrates the world of horses. He does not paint his own animals (is the word still correct?), which live in semi-liberty on his land in the Pyrenees mountains. He does not make pictures. He paints unknown horsemen, tiny passersby of immensity. He paints St Georges who fight, horsemen who hunt, falconers who look up to the sky. He never stops painting fabulous centaurs, his impossible doubles. So many creative pretexts, so many ways for the painted horse to finally inhabit the countless earths. After painting, riding the beast puts him back in the saddle…. At the centre of his art, the horse centres man.
Patick Loste paints the horse-man entity, the one that creates the expanse by its stride, that fuses man at the sources of his deep and secret animality, that embodies the deepest instinct of life, that eroticizes the intimate relationship of the humanised beast to the animalised rider who rides it, and that finally abolishes for a time the unthinkable distance that separates man from his nature].
